Senator David Perdue Seeks Answers About Irwin County Detention Center
“I urge you to swiftly provide the public with a clear, vetted, and accurate picture of the situation”
ATLANTA, GA – U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) wrote to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to request an expedited investigation into allegations of medical misconduct at the Irwin County Detention Center in Ocilla, Georgia.
The letters, addressed to Joseph Cuffari, Inspector General of DHS, and Kenneth Cuccinelli, the Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security, come in response to a recent whistleblower complaint filed with the Office of the Inspector General.
“This complaint, which includes serious allegations of medical mistreatment surrounding hysterectomies, is extremely disturbing and raises significant concerns about the health and safety of detainees in my state,” wrote Senator Perdue. “I urge you to prioritize this investigation and to swiftly provide the public with a clear, vetted, and accurate picture of the situation at the Irwin County Detention Center.”
