Senator David Perdue On Funding The Government

Let this continuing resolution serve as a wake-up call to get our financial affairs in order.”

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) a member of the Senate Budget Committee, comments on Congress’s 189th continuing resolution (CR) and its failure to fully fund the federal government on time by the end of the fiscal year on September 30:

“Here we are again. Only four times in the last forty-six years has Congress fully funded the government before the end of the fiscal year,” said Senator Perdue. “Because the budget and appropriations processes have not funded the discretionary expenses of the federal government, Congress again had to resort to a continuing resolution to fund the government. Let this continuing resolution serve as a wake-up call to get our financial affairs in order. Even though we’ve reached an agreement, if we do not get serious come December 11th then we’ll be facing another crisis. Now more than ever, the American people need certainty. Until we finally fix Congress’s broken funding process and hold members accountable for not completing the job, this cycle is bound to repeat itself.”
